Make it last forever friendship never ends

Last night was the ultimate "Girl Power" walk down memory lane. There I was, inside General Motors Place, amongst a sold out crowd of crazy fans for the first show of The Return of Spice Girls World Tour. If the show had been anything except exactly what I had expected, I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much. They are truly like caricatures; five women with distinct personas strutting their stuff on stage for two hours. There was quite a stir caused before the show began as flashes were going off like crazy up in one of the boxes; Mr. Posh aka David Beckham himself, had flown in for the first show of the tour and was drawing quite a bit of attention from screaming fans.

As we walked to our seats, we were shocked by the number of fashion don'ts, girls with Baby pig tails, and hideous metallic "spice" boots. Yep, 1998 called and even Posh, Scary, Baby, Ginger and Sporty aren't rocking those block platforms these days, ladies. We actually found ourselves stumbling over one another, laughing at some of the wild outfits that fans were sporting. It was too cute for words and all in good fun though. We must not have gotten the memo that fans were supposed to dress up in one of two categories: a) uber hoochie mama or b) Spice style circa late 90's. Like idiots, we showed up in our regular clothes. The people watching, needless to say, was exceptionally entertaining.

Kristina and me at the show. Yes, we still remember every word to every song and all the dance moves.

The merchandise tables were insane; I could barely even get close enough to see what they were selling, let alone actually purchase something. On the radio this morning, they were advising those who did manage to score a t-shirt to put them up on e-bay, as they are seriously hot and sold out commodities. Just as it was 10 years ago, the show wasn't about great singing or dancing. It was about great entertainment and just like they did when I saw them back in the day, the girls definitely delivered. It was certainly a more grown up show though, that included sleek, sexy and sequined costumes-all designed by Roberto Cavalli. Gone were the platform boots, the eye-popping outfits and the “accidental” flashing of underwear. The girls looked more amazing and glamourous than ever. Performing on a stage that boasted several video screens and platforms, a catwalk leading to a smaller stage on the floor and the best lighting money can buy, the group was backed by an eight-piece band and ten incredible male dancers. The girls couldn't stop smiling or hugging each other and were clearly relishing every minute of being back together on stage. It was a solid gold reunion of spicy proportions. Flashbacks to those years during which I sang and danced regularly to these tunes were running through my head as Kristina, Deanna and I belted the words out along with the ladies and resurrected all of our old dance moves up in the balcony. The night was pure perfection and everything that I had hoped for.

Rebecca, they all got new boobs hoping that they'd look as good as yours! But they don't...you win.

Jenni - again, I am so jealous! I heard they were even selling aprons! I found that slightly ironic seeing as I'm pretty sure none of them cook...It's probably a good thing I didn't go since I would've spent the entire time staring at David Beckham's silhouette .

haha. Melissa, I would have tried to score you an apron had I known they were selling them! It is a tad on the ironic side, isn't it!? I came out of the show "merch-less"...the lines were more insane than anything I've ever seen! The show was SO good though. I did a few Posh points with you in mind! :)
