The 'Lame' Guru
Last Friday night, my brother Greg and I met up after work and headed out to see The Love Guru. Why would you ever go to see a movie that got a review like this, you ask? Well, it's two fold. One, we love Mike Myers. We always have. Wayne's World, Austin Powers, too many pant-wetting SNL skits to count. The man is an absolute genius. Two, sometimes critics are hard on these kinds of movies and they really are hilarious despite mediocre, or even bad reviews. We wanted to support our Canadian talent and give the film a chance. As it turned out, we probably should have believed the reviewer who called it "unfunny." Well, I suppose that might be a little harsh, but this one's definitely a renter. The laughs did come for a while but the ‘jokes’ got progressively worse and more juvenile as it went on. Eye rolling became more frequent than belly laughing and soon it was clear that Myers had run out of gas. But he kept going. And next thing you know, you find yourself sitting there, shaking your head, and wondering if you really just watched two elephants hump in the middle of a hockey arena. This is the first time that I've ever walked out of a Mike Myers movie and not loved it.

Check out this clip below to remember some finer (and funnier) moments with Mr. Myers. This is one of my favourites. Special thanks to my bro for digging it up. Classic.
Now, I better get the HAIL outta here...

I'm dying! Thank god for little bros who can dig up the vintage, eh? "Alice is a sex-addict..." Thanks for making my morning!
I was so sad to hear that this movie isn't funny. I was looking forward to it. I love love Mike Myers.
Awww... :(
So I Married an Axe Murderer is one of my favourites.
hahahaha it makes me laugh just to think about it.
So I Married an Axe Murderer is so good. I love it too.
Here's hoping that Mike Myers still has a few more brilliant comedies up his sleeve and this one's just a hiccup!
"you really just watched two elephants hump in the middle of a hockey arena."
it's the pre-season already?
Well, he's a funny guy but unfortunately he' s a funny guy trying to stretch about ten jokes over as many years. "Hail" was a good laugh, but you notice how he recycled that "toight as a toiger" stuff in Austin Powers?
I just saw "Love Guru" ... I'm really disappointed - gotta agree with your review, Jen. I mean, the overall message was good, but the storytelling was terrible. :(
Here's hoping the next Austin Powers is better than both "Love Guru" and "Goldmember" ... neither of which I thought were very funny :(
Nothing tops Bohemian Rhapsody in the Mirth-mobile ... ah, memories!
